Review: Too Easy by Donna Hay

January 21, 2026

Donna Hay has been popping out one great weeknight dinner cookbook after another these past few years. After Week Light, Everyday Fresh, One Pan Perfect and the Fast Five – all great cookbooks by the way – this one is called: Too Easy. And it really delivers on that promise. The recipes are truly very easy, and: delicious!

Chapters in Too Easy

All chapters have a different focus related to ‘easy cooking’ such as Pantry staples, Faster than takeaway, Set and forget and the hilarious title Honey… I bought an air fryer. Luckily, in Donna’s world, easy recipes are still very visually appealing! The esthetics are half the fun of a Donna Hay cookbook, right?

Recipes in Too Easy

The cookbook has a pretty standard offer of dishes, which is probably what you want from an easy recipe: not stray too far from your comfort zone? There’s chicken, pork and fish dinners, wraps, pasta’s, healthy bowls, pizza and flatbread situations. And luckily: there’s a dessert chapter ánd a superfast (sweet) snacks chapter. Both things Donna excels at!

How accessible is Too Easy?

The ingredient lists in Too Easy are short, as are the instructions. Not everything will be ready in 20 minutes. But the recipes that take longer are mostly hands-off oven dinners. Donna adds a ‘Cook’s Note’ to most recipes. Sometimes with an even quicker short cut or ingredient swap, or extra instruction on how to successfully make the recipe.

Who will like Too Easy?

Anyone who’s low on time (or energy) and loves to eat an attractive meal will love this cookbook. It even has some dishes and desserts that are great for a dinner party – such as the Tomato and chorizo braised fish and the Limoncello tiramisu. My only problem with all of Donna Hay’s cookbooks is portion size. Big eaters will go a bit hungry. So add a side, some bread or finish the meal with one of the delicious desserts.
